The oral language productive vocabulary profile of children starting school: A resource for teachers

چکیده

The oral language proficiency of students in early education is crucial as teachers draw on this a resource when developing literacy. There need to better understand what consists at school entry, particularly the diversity amongst children so address inequalities. This article reports study key component language, namely productive vocabulary. It profiles vocabulary approximately 3.6 million words produced by large sample almost 800 under age five. results are reported resource, structured list 2767 targets. profile represents highly presumably known most well more advanced not part every child’s language. demonstrates pedagogical implications research context National Literacy Learning Progressions Australian Curriculum.
